Restoring A Drab Deck
Does your deck look old and weather-beaten? With the warmer temperatures upon us, backyards across the country will soon become the
gathering places of choice for many friends and families. And it's not too late to transform your wooden deck from an eyesore into a beautiful outdoor living space.
Here are four simple steps you can take to add life to your deck while giving it a fresh makeover.
Step 1 - Restoration The first step you need to take is to tighten loose screws and nails, secure floor boards and sink any protruding nails on your deck.
Look for mildew or rotting wood by inspecting underneath the deck and replace any damaged boards.
Step 2 - Surface Preparation A good cleaning will remove dirt grime and the grey color from your deck.
Bleach, mixed half and half with water, is recommended to eliminate mold and mildew. Rinse and let dry 48 hours.
Step 3 - Protection To preserve that beautiful natural look, protect your deck's surface with an exterior wood preserve sealer.
We recommend Swedish Wood Oil by Chapman or Wood Pride by Devoe.
These exterior wood preservatives will protect your deck against fading and discoloration due to decay, fungus, and mold while providing water repellency and is available in clear and 6-factor pre-tints.
Step 4 - Decoration Let your imagination run wild. Try adding a trellis with hanging plants, a couple of big potted plants around the deck or flower boxes on the rail..
For a two-toned look on your deck, try finishing your railings and posts in a different accent color.
